The track and field program opened invitational weekend in impressive fashion at the Garden State Invitational hosted at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, delivering multiple personal records, national qualifications, and statement victories against elite competition.
Leading the charge was freshman Cameron Morgan, who ran a breakthrough time of 7.03 in the 55-meter dash, earning qualification for Nike Nationals. Morgan’s performance signals a strong future for the sprint program and showcases the development of the team’s underclassmen.
The 4x200-meter relay team of senior Devin Spruill, Roman Horning, and junior Kylim Mintz-Rivera also secured Nike Nationals qualification, demonstrating depth, speed, and strong relay chemistry on a major stage.
Senior standout Devin Spruill delivered one of the meet’s most impressive individual performances in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing 1st out of 75 athletes in preliminary competition. After the invitational seeded heats were completed, Spruill placed 9th overall, competing against some of the region’s top hurdlers.
In distance events, the senior-led 4x800-meter relay team of Joshua Bucko, William Waerig, Christopher Gekonge, and Brett Westerfer dominated the field with a wire-to-wire victory, clocking an outstanding 7:58.50. The sub-8 performance indoors reflects both experience and championship-level preparation as the team approaches postseason competition.
In addition to these marquee performances, several underclassmen recorded personal bests and showed continued growth, positioning the program strongly as it transitions toward the outdoor season.
With senior leadership setting the tone and emerging talent rising to the occasion, the team continues to build momentum heading into championship season.
